Underwear

14 pairs total — Tier A. Highest skin-contact category. Cert priority: GOTS + OEKO-TEX stacked. Elastane in body fabric flagged as borderline; elastane in waistband only is structurally unavoidable and acceptable.

Prices as of 2026-06 — brand product pages — ← Back to overview

Skin-contact rule note: Every boxer brief in this category uses ~95% organic cotton / 5% elastane in the body fabric knit, plus separate elastane waistband. There is no GOTS-certified boxer brief without elastane in the body fabric at a price below ~$39/pair (Rawganique BRAHMS elastic-free drawstring option). The Pact boxer brief is the pragmatic choice: GOTS + Fair Trade + OEKO-TEX stacked, lowest price per pair in the certified category. The 5% elastane in body fabric is flagged. Merino pairs (Icebreaker) have 83% merino / 12% nylon / 5% elastane — nylon and elastane are structural, not finish-based; OEKO-TEX certified.

Note: the Fair Indigo polo is the only GOTS + OEKO-TEX pick in the polo category with zero elastane. For underwear, Rawganique is the only elastic-free option but carries no finished-garment cert — that tradeoff is surfaced on every card.

Organic cotton — 12 pairs (Tier A)

Pact Everyday Boxer Brief Organic Cotton

Everyday Boxer Brief 4-pack

Pact • USA brand, India manufacture (GOTS factory)

95% organic cotton / 5% elastane (body fabric). Separate elastane waistband.

GOTS • Fair Trade Certified • OEKO-TEX Standard 100

$72 / 4-pack ($18/pair) as of 2026-06

Buy: 3 packs (12 pairs)

Tier A

Borderline: 5% elastane in body fabric knit. No GOTS-certified alternative exists below $39/pair without elastane. Waistband is separately constructed elastic.

Best-value GOTS + Fair Trade + OEKO-TEX stack in the certified organic cotton boxer brief market. 12 pairs at $18/pair = $216 for a full drawer rotation.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Avoid fabric softener (degrades elastane). Use mild detergent.
  • Dry: Tumble dry low or line dry. Remove promptly from dryer to reduce elastane fatigue.
  • Iron: Not needed for casual boxer briefs.
  • Expected life: 2–3 years with proper care; elastane begins to relax after ~200 wash cycles.
  • When to replace: Waistband loses snap; body fabric thins at inner thigh seam; pilling through the seat.

Merino wool — 2 pairs (Tier A)

Merino boxer shorts for travel, active days, and rotation variety. 83% merino / 12% nylon / 5% elastane: nylon is a durability fiber (standard for all merino underwear — pure merino knit would fail at the crotch seam within weeks). ZQ Merino certified, non-mulesed wool, OEKO-TEX Standard 100. This is not a PFAS concern; the synthetics here are structural fibers, not chemical finish treatments.

Icebreaker Merino 150 Anatomica Boxers

Merino 150 Anatomica Boxers

Icebreaker • New Zealand brand; wool from NZ (ZQ farms); manufacture NZ/Asia

83% merino wool / 12% nylon / 5% elastane. 150 g/m² jersey knit.

ZQ Merino certified • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 • Non-mulesed wool (contractual commitment)

$50 / pair as of 2026-06

Buy: 2 pairs

Tier A

Best-documented merino underwear on the market. ZQ Merino + non-mulesed is the strongest animal welfare credential available. Odor resistance means 3–5 wears between washes — useful for travel and light-laundry weeks. Size S available.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Do not use fabric softeners. Wash with like colors.
  • Dry: Line dry in shade. Do not tumble dry. (Icebreaker product page specifies no tumble dry for this product.)
  • Iron: Cool iron if needed. Do not iron decorations or prints.
  • Storage: Fold flat; merino attracts moths if stored unwashed in natural-fiber storage boxes — ensure clean before long storage.
  • Expected life: 3–5 years; merino has natural odor resistance allowing fewer washes, extending lifespan vs. cotton. Per wool dossier: merino worn 3–5 wears between washes is appropriate.
  • When to replace: Thinning at inner thigh seam; pilling that does not pill-shave flat; waistband elongation.

Tier D — Long-term replacement (heirloom)

Rawganique is the only brand that eliminates all synthetic fiber from underwear construction — including the elastane in the body knit that makes every Tier A option borderline. The BRAHMS drawstring boxer uses a cotton drawstring closure rather than elastic. This is the “buy one, evaluate, replace one Pact pair as it wears out” approach. Not a bulk purchase.

Rawganique BRAHMS Elastic-Free Organic Cotton Boxers

BRAHMS Elastic-Free Organic Cotton Knit Boxers

Rawganique • Denman Island, BC, Canada (since ~1997, founded by Klaus Wallner); atelier in Europe

100% organic cotton knit (190 gsm). Drawstring closure. Organic cotton thread. No polyester, no elastane, no latex. Tagua nut or coconut buttons.

No third-party certification on finished product (self-claim only). Rawganique states their practices “far exceed GOTS” but this claim is unverified. Per the untreated-natural-brands dossier: certifying their small workshop is cost-prohibitive per the brand’s own explanation. No GOTS scope cert; no OEKO-TEX on finished garment confirmed.

$38.95–$46.95 / pair as of 2026-06

Buy: 1 pair (heirloom trial; replace individual Pact pairs as they wear out)

Tier D

The only elastic-free boxer brief in this catalog: no elastane anywhere, not even in the waistband. Drawstring closure is the design workaround that eliminates synthetic rubber. The no-elastane / no-synthetic-dye design philosophy is Rawganique’s founding principle since 1997. Buy one to evaluate fit and comfort with the drawstring before committing to replacing the full rotation. The tradeoff is honest: no third-party cert, higher price, adjustment required to the drawstring closure.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Hand-wash or machine wash in warm water with like colors, mild biodegradable detergent. Use a mesh laundry bag. No bleach, no fabric softeners.
  • Dry: Tumble dry on low/gentle cycle; remove promptly. Or hang to dry (preferred by brand for longevity).
  • Iron: Iron at cotton setting if desired.
  • Expected life: 5–10 years with proper care. No elastane means no “waistband snap” failure mode; the cotton knit ages gracefully rather than catastrophically.
  • When to replace: Body fabric thins through seat; drawstring frays; visible weave breakdown at crotch seam.

100% natural body fabric

The body fabric is the main panel that touches most of your skin — distinct from the waistband and trim. Most underwear has 3–5% elastane in the body knit for stretch. Below are the genuinely 100% natural body-fabric options: drawstring-closure designs with zero elastic anywhere (Path 1), and heritage woven boxer shorts where the only synthetic is in the separate waistband (Path 2). For the body-health framing, both paths solve the skin-contact problem; Path 1 also removes the question of what the waistband is made of.

Note: Hanes and Fruit of the Loom “woven boxer shorts” are 55% cotton / 45% polyester as of 2026-06 verification — they do NOT qualify as 100% natural body fabric despite the “woven” label. See FOTL/Hanes note below.

Path 1 — Drawstring closure (zero elastic anywhere)

These designs eliminate elastic from the garment entirely. Closure is achieved by an organic cotton drawstring and/or natural button fly (tagua nut or coconut). No polyester, no elastane, no latex, no nylon. The CORBIN uses a button-front fly without a drawstring, but the waistband construction is still elastic-free. The Cottonique items differ from the Rawganique items in one important dimension: the factory is GOTS and B-Corp certified (Philippines, brand-owned), whereas Rawganique operates a small workshop in Europe with self-certified practices only. Both are honest compromises; they are different in where the credibility is located.

Rawganique BRAHMS Organic Cotton Drawstring Boxers

BRAHMS Elastic-Free Organic Cotton Knit Boxers

Rawganique • Denman Island, BC, Canada (atelier EU) • Path 1 — Zero elastic

100% organic cotton knit (190 gsm). Drawstring closure. Organic cotton thread. Tagua nut / coconut buttons. No polyester, no elastane, no latex.

Self-claim only — no GOTS or OEKO-TEX on finished garment. See Tier D card above.

Rawganique BUXTON Organic Cotton Twill Drawstring Boxers

BUXTON Elastic-Free 100% Organic Cotton Twill Drawstring Boxers

Rawganique • Denman Island, BC, Canada (atelier EU) • Path 1 — Zero elastic

100% organic cotton twill (7 oz medium-weight). Drawstring closure + carved natural tagua nut button fly. Organic cotton thread. No polyester, no elastane, no latex, no GMO.

Self-claim only — no GOTS or OEKO-TEX on finished garment. Rawganique states “100% biodegradable” and plastic-free since 1997. No third-party cert on finished product.

$35.95–$40.95 / pair as of 2026-06

Tier D

The woven-twill version in the Rawganique elastic-free lineup. The 7 oz twill is heavier and stiffer than the BRAHMS or BACH cotton knit — it feels closer to a traditional woven boxer, good for cooler weather or for those who dislike the stretch of knit. The drawstring + button-fly combo means zero elastic anywhere. Works equally as loungewear or sleepwear. Tradeoff: the relaxed cut is noticeably roomy; not a fitted profile. Try one pair before buying multiples.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash gentle cycle cold or warm, with like colors. Use a mesh laundry bag. Avoid top-loading machines, abrasive detergent, and fabric softeners.
  • Dry: Hang or flat dry preferred. Tumble dry low/gentle if needed; remove promptly. No high heat.
  • Iron: Steam iron at cotton setting.
  • Storage: Fold clean; no special requirements for cotton.
  • Expected life: 5–10 years. No elastane means no waistband-snap failure mode; cotton twill ages by gradual softening rather than catastrophic elastic failure.
  • When to replace: Weave breakdown at crotch seam; drawstring frays; fabric thins at seat.

Rawganique BACH Organic Prima Cotton Drawstring Boxers

BACH Elastic-Free 100% Organic Prima Cotton Boxers

Rawganique • Denman Island, BC, Canada (atelier EU) • Path 1 — Zero elastic

100% organic Prima cotton jersey knit (190 gsm). Drawstring with organic cotton ribbon. Tagua nut / coconut buttons. Organic cotton sewing thread. No polyester, no elastane, no latex.

Self-claim only — no GOTS or OEKO-TEX on finished garment. “100% biodegradable.”

$39.95 / pair as of 2026-06

Tier D

Essentially an updated sibling to the BRAHMS: same 190 gsm organic cotton knit, same elastic-free drawstring closure, but the BACH uses an organic cotton ribbon drawstring (softer feel at waist) rather than the cord style. Doubled-up crotch panel for durability. Available in Natural (undyed, dye-free) and Athletic Grey (organic biodegradable eco-dye). Choose BACH if you want the same elastic-free principle as BRAHMS with a slightly different waist feel.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash gentle cycle cold or warm, with like colors. Use a mesh laundry bag. No bleach, no fabric softeners.
  • Dry: Hang or flat dry preferred. Tumble dry low/gentle is acceptable; remove promptly.
  • Iron: Steam iron at cotton setting if desired.
  • Expected life: 5–10 years. Cotton knit without elastane softens with use rather than degrading; primary failure mode is fabric thinning at seat or drawstring fraying.

Rawganique CORBIN Elastic-Free Cotton Button-Front Woven Boxers (image placeholder)

CORBIN Elastic-Free 100% Organic Cotton Boxers

Rawganique • Denman Island, BC, Canada (atelier EU) • Path 1 — Zero elastic

100% organic Prima cotton woven. Button-front fly; no drawstring. Tagua nut or coconut buttons. Organic cotton interfacing. Gusset crotch. No polyester, no elastane, no latex, no plastic.

Self-claim only — no GOTS or OEKO-TEX on finished garment. “100% biodegradable.”

$41.95 / pair as of 2026-06

Tier D

The CORBIN is the most traditionally-cut option in the Rawganique lineup: button-front fly with no drawstring at all (the waist is a non-elastic fitted band). This is not common — almost every modern woven boxer either uses elastic or drawstring. Available in multiple colorways including Rainforest Charcoal, Natural, Tuscan Sky, Black, Athletic Grey. Gusset crotch construction. Note: product image shown is a placeholder — product page does not serve a cached CDN image at time of audit; use the onerror fallback.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash gentle cycle cold or warm, with like colors. Mesh laundry bag recommended. No bleach, no fabric softeners.
  • Dry: Hang or flat dry preferred; tumble dry low acceptable.
  • Iron: Cotton setting if desired.
  • Expected life: 5–10 years. No elastic means the waist band does not degrade. Primary failure modes: button loss (replaceable), fabric thinning at crotch gusset.

Cottonique Rib Drawstring Boxer Brief 100% Organic Cotton

Latex-Free Men’s Rib Drawstring Boxer Brief with Fly

Cottonique • Philippines (brand-owned, GOTS & B-Corp certified factory) • Path 1 — Zero elastic

100% organic cotton rib knit (180 gsm). Organic cotton drawstring closure. Organic cotton sewing thread. Organic cotton-yarn braided drawstring. Woven cotton label. Free from latex, spandex, synthetic fibers, dyes, resins, bleach, formaldehyde.

GOTS certified factory • B-Corp certified (Essential Layer Inc., parent company) • Latex-free designation. Note on ALAA: Cottonique is widely recognized in the latex allergy community as a recommended brand; direct ALAA listing not confirmed from product page at time of research.

$35 / pair as of 2026-06

Natural (undyed) is the cleanest option; dyed variants use core-spun thread (cotton-wrapped polyester core) — choose Natural if avoiding all synthetics.

Tier D

The key differentiator from Rawganique: the factory is GOTS certified and the parent company is B-Corp certified. For people who require that level of third-party assurance (latex allergy, multiple chemical sensitivity), Cottonique is the only 100% natural drawstring boxer brief in this catalog with certifiable supply chain documentation. The rib knit provides some stretch without elastane, which helps with fit vs. the pure woven options. Functional fly. US shipping confirmed. At $35/pair, cheaper than the Rawganique cotton options.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash gentle cycle, cold or warm. Use pH-balanced or mild detergent — Cottonique recommends avoiding harsh detergents for sensitive-skin fabrics. No bleach, no fabric softener.
  • Dry: Tumble dry low or line dry.
  • Iron: Low steam iron if needed.
  • Expected life: 3–7 years. Rib knit without elastane is durable; primary failure modes are drawstring wear and crotch panel thinning.

Cottonique Drawstring Loose Boxer Shorts 2-Pack 100% Organic Cotton

Latex-Free Men’s Drawstring Loose Boxer Shorts (2-pack)

Cottonique • Philippines (brand-owned, GOTS & B-Corp certified factory) • Path 1 — Zero elastic

100% organic cotton single jersey (150–179 gsm). Organic cotton drawstring. Hypoallergenic coco button. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 cotton thread. Free from latex, spandex, synthetic fibers, dyes, resins, bleach, formaldehyde.

GOTS certified factory • B-Corp certified • Latex-free

$60 / 2-pack ($30/pair) as of 2026-06

2 pairs per pack. Size S/M, L/XL, or 2XL/3XL.

Tier D

Best price-per-pair in the 100% natural zero-elastic category: $30/pair at the 2-pack price. Looser cut than the boxer brief version — more traditional loose-boxer silhouette. Functional fly. The single jersey is lighter than the rib-knit boxer brief (150–179 gsm vs. 180 gsm), appropriate for warmer weather. If you prefer a loose boxers silhouette with the same elastic-free, latex-free, GOTS-factory credentials, this is the option.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash gentle cycle, cold or warm. pH-balanced or mild detergent recommended. No bleach, no fabric softener.
  • Dry: Tumble dry low or line dry.
  • Iron: Low steam iron if needed.
  • Expected life: 3–7 years. Single jersey is lighter than rib-knit; slight trade-off in durability vs. the boxer brief version. Primary failure: fabric thinning at crotch panel; drawstring wear.

Path 1.5 — Organic merino wool, covered-organic-elastic waistband

These are NOT drawstring / zero-elastic. The CHET and PICASSO have a covered elastic waistband where the elastic core is 50% organic cotton / 50% natural rubber — not synthetic spandex. The body fabric is 100% organic merino wool, not superwashed. Honest distinction: natural rubber is still an elastic, and some people with natural rubber sensitivity react to it (it is, however, a genuinely natural material, unlike polyurethane spandex). If your goal is specifically zero-synthetic AND zero-rubber-latex, stick to the drawstring options above. If your goal is 100% natural-fiber body fabric with no synthetic spandex anywhere, the CHET and PICASSO qualify.

Rawganique CHET Organic Merino Wool Medium-Weight Boxer Shorts

CHET 100% Organic Merino Medium-Weight Boxer Shorts

Rawganique • Denman Island, BC, Canada (atelier EU) • Path 1.5 — Merino, organic-wrapped elastic

100% organic merino wool knit (30/2; 1-ply). Covered organic elastic waistband: 50% organic cotton / 50% natural rubber, 28mm wide. Organic cotton sewing thread. NOT superwashed. No synthetic elastane, no polyester, no nylon.

Self-claim only — no GOTS or OEKO-TEX on finished garment. Certified organic merino wool (France & Italy source claimed). “100% biodegradable.”

$79.95 / pair as of 2026-06

Tier D

The only 100% organic merino boxer in this catalog with zero synthetic elastane. The body fabric is pure untreated merino wool — not superwashed, which means it retains natural lanolin and fiber integrity but requires careful washing. The waistband uses natural rubber wrapped in organic cotton rather than synthetic spandex. Merino at this weight (medium) suits cool weather; the companion lightweight version is PICASSO. Odor resistance means 3–5 wears between washes. This is the most expensive item in this section; buy one pair first.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Hand-wash in cool water with a wool-safe detergent, OR machine wash on wool/delicate cycle, cold. NOT superwashed — do not use hot water; do not use regular detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener.
  • Dry: Lay flat to dry. Do not hang (stretches knit). Do not tumble dry. Not superwashed = shrink-risk with heat.
  • Iron: Do not iron. Steam lightly if needed.
  • Storage: Clean before storage. Merino attracts moths when stored with body oils. Cedar blocks or lavender sachets; avoid airtight synthetic bags.
  • Expected life: 5–10 years with careful handling. Not superwashed means natural fiber integrity is intact; merino at this weight should last many years without pilling issues if washed gently and infrequently.

Rawganique PICASSO Organic Merino Wool Boxer Briefs

PICASSO 100% Organic Merino Wool Boxer Briefs

Rawganique • Denman Island, BC, Canada (atelier EU) • Path 1.5 — Merino, organic-wrapped elastic

100% organic merino wool knit (48/2; lightweight). Covered organic elastic waistband: 50% organic cotton / 50% natural rubber, 28mm wide. Organic cotton sewing thread. NOT superwashed. No synthetic elastane, no polyester, no nylon, no polyamide, no forever chemicals.

Self-claim only — no GOTS or OEKO-TEX on finished garment. Certified organic merino wool. “100% biodegradable.”

$59.95 / pair as of 2026-06

Tier D

Lightweight version of the CHET in a boxer-brief cut (closer fit, shorter leg). The (48/2) yarn weight is lighter than the CHET’s (30/2), making it more suitable for warmer weather and travel. Not superwashed. The same waistband construction as CHET: covered natural rubber wrapped in organic cotton, no synthetic spandex. $20 cheaper than the CHET. For travel use, merino’s odor resistance allows multi-day wear without washing — the single biggest practical argument for merino in a packing-light scenario.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Hand-wash in cool water with wool-safe detergent, OR machine wash wool/delicate cold. NOT superwashed — heat and agitation will shrink. No bleach, no fabric softener.
  • Dry: Lay flat to dry. No tumble dry. No hanging (stretches knit).
  • Iron: Do not iron. Steam lightly if needed.
  • Storage: Clean before storage; merino attracts moths when soiled. Cedar or lavender deterrent.
  • Expected life: 5–10 years with careful handling; lighter weight than CHET means slightly less abrasion resistance.

Path 2 — 100% cotton body, separate elastic waistband

Heritage woven cotton boxer shorts. The body fabric is 100% cotton (poplin, batiste, broadcloth, or plain weave); the separate elastic waistband touches only the waistline, not the main skin-contact body panel. This is how almost all men’s boxer shorts were constructed before the 1990s synthetic-stretch revolution. The woven construction gives a different feel than knit: crisper, more structured, no stretch. These are categorically different from modern stretch boxer briefs.

Note on the budget tier (Path 2): Hanes and Fruit of the Loom “woven boxers” were researched and do not qualify — verified composition is 55% cotton / 45% polyester (EverSoft® blend). The “grandfather woven boxer” myth that these are 100% cotton is outdated. The entry-level qualified option is Brooks Brothers Cotton Broadcloth at ~$28–$40.

Brooks Brothers Cotton Broadcloth Boxers 100% Cotton

Cotton Broadcloth Boxers

Brooks Brothers • USA brand (Imported manufacture) • Path 2 — 100% cotton body, separate elastic

100% cotton broadcloth body fabric. Separate elastic waistband (waistband synthetic is structurally separate from body). Signature back panel construction.

No GOTS, OEKO-TEX, or organic cert. Conventional cotton. Heritage brand, no sustainability claims.

$27.65–$39.50 / pair (sale / regular) as of 2026-06

Tier A

Entry-level heritage woven boxer with a 100% cotton body. Brooks Brothers makes both broadcloth (plain weave, finer) and Oxford cotton versions at the same price. At $28–$40, this is the most accessible 100% cotton woven boxer currently available from a heritage American brand. Conventional (non-organic) cotton — no certification. If the skin-contact goal is 100% natural body fabric without organic cert requirement, this qualifies. Machine washable. Wide size range (30–52).

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash according to care instructions (standard cotton settings).
  • Dry: Tumble dry low. Remove promptly.
  • Iron: Cotton setting if desired; broadcloth wrinkles more than jersey knit.
  • Expected life: 3–5 years. Woven cotton without elastane ages well; waistband elastic is the typical failure point (outlasts the body fabric on most cotton boxers).

Sunspel Classic Cotton Poplin Boxer Short Navy

Men’s Classic Boxer Short (Cotton Poplin)

Sunspel • UK (founded 1860, Long Eaton); made in Portugal • Path 2 — 100% cotton body, separate elastic

100% cotton (super-fine long-staple poplin). Separate elasticated waistband. Double-turned, feldlocked seams. Distinctive back panel construction (no center rear seam).

No GOTS or OEKO-TEX cert stated on product page. Heritage brand; conventional cotton not organic. Craftsmanship heritage (1860) is the primary quality credential.

$60 / pair as of 2026-06

Tier B

Sunspel is arguably the British heritage benchmark for woven cotton boxer shorts — the brand has been making them with the same construction since the mid-20th century. The super-fine long-staple cotton gives a noticeably finer hand than Brooks Brothers broadcloth. Ships from a US warehouse (1–3 working days, FedEx, $10 or free over $250). No customs or duties. Multiple colorways. At $60 this is the right “one step up from entry-level” woven cotton option.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash warm or cold. No bleach.
  • Dry: Tumble dry low, or line dry. Sunspel does not prohibit tumble drying on this product page.
  • Iron: Cotton setting. Poplin wrinkles; ironing recommended for clean appearance.
  • Expected life: 5+ years with moderate care; woven cotton without elastane is very durable. The feldlocked seams extend life vs. standard overlocked seams.

Hanro Fancy Woven Cotton Boxer White

Fancy Woven Cotton Boxer

Hanro • Founded Wangen, Switzerland 1884; manufacture European • Path 2 — 100% cotton body, separate elastic

100% woven cotton body fabric (classic stripes, checks, and solids). Covered elastic waistband. Single button fly. Note: Blue Fading Stripe and Linen Stripe variants are 55% Linen / 45% Cotton — verify before ordering if fiber purity is required.

No GOTS or OEKO-TEX cert stated on product page. Swiss heritage brand; no specific sustainability cert listed for this product.

$70 / pair as of 2026-06

Tier B

Hanro occupies the same quality tier as Sunspel but with Swiss manufacturing heritage and a covered (rather than exposed) elastic waistband. Free 2-day US shipping from hanrousa.com within the 48 contiguous states. Wide pattern range (stripes, checks, solids). The Fancy Woven is the classic 100% cotton option; avoid the Blue Fading Stripe / Linen Stripe if you need 100% cotton specifically (those are 55% linen / 45% cotton). At $70 it sits between Sunspel ($60) and Derek Rose ($100) in the heritage woven tier.

Classic Fit Boxers — Cotton Batiste

Derek Rose • London (founded 1926); manufacture not published • Path 2 — 100% cotton body, separate elastic

100% cotton batiste (lightweight plain weave; batiste is a finer, sheerer weave than broadcloth or poplin). Fully elasticated separate waistband. Traditional two-button keyhole fly. Back panel construction (no center rear seam).

No GOTS or OEKO-TEX cert stated on product page. London luxury brand; no specific sustainability certification listed.

$100 / pair as of 2026-06

Tier B

Caveat: At $100/pair this is a statement purchase. Verified composition is 100% cotton (confirmed from product page). Wide pattern range including prints and novelty designs (London Scenic, Rose motifs) as well as classic stripes and checks. Free shipping on orders over $300 USD.

Derek Rose is the London luxury benchmark for woven cotton boxers; their Classic Fit in cotton batiste is the most refined woven option in this list. Batiste is lighter and finer than poplin or broadcloth — appropriate for warmer weather. Care instruction “reshape whilst damp” is notable: these are not tumble-dry items. Buy if you want the premium woven boxer experience and are committed to hand or flat drying.

Maintenance:
  • Wash: Machine wash at 30°C (cool). No bleach.
  • Dry: Do not tumble dry. Reshape whilst damp; hang or flat dry.
  • Iron: Warm iron on reverse.
  • Expected life: 5–8 years with proper care; batiste is finer than broadcloth and more prone to wear if tumble-dried.

Hanes / Fruit of the Loom “woven boxers” — NOT 100% cotton: Verified composition for Hanes and Fruit of the Loom woven boxer shorts (as of 2026-06 product research) is 55% cotton / 45% polyester (EverSoft® blend on Fruit of the Loom; similar blend on Hanes). These do not qualify as 100% natural body fabric. The “grandfather wore these 100% cotton boxers” narrative is outdated — both brands shifted their woven boxers to cotton-polyester blends. The knit/jersey boxers from Hanes (ComfortSoft etc.) are 100% cotton in solid colors, but those are knit jersey (stretch), not traditional woven construction. If you want 100% cotton woven at a budget price, the entry point is now Brooks Brothers at ~$28.

Not recommended / considered and rejected

WAMA Hemp Boxer Brief ($20–$28/pair, OEKO-TEX): Good PFAS-free credentials. Separate elastic waistband. However: the body knit is 53% hemp / 44% organic cotton / 3% spandex — that is 3% elastane in the body fabric. This does NOT qualify as 100% natural body fabric. Still a strong pick if 100% natural body fabric is not your constraint: PFAS-free, good fiber credentials, OEKO-TEX certified. Starts stiffer than cotton; softens with washing. The composition note here updates the original catalog entry.

Bamboo-viscose brands (Boody, etc.): Excluded. Bamboo viscose is chemically regenerated rayon, not a natural fiber. See dossier Section 2.5.

Uniqlo AIRism underwear: Excluded. AIRism is a synthetic moisture-management fabric (polyester-based). High skin-contact; incompatible with skin-contact rule.

Fruit of the Loom / Hanes woven boxers: Excluded from 100% natural section. Verified composition 55% cotton / 45% polyester. See note above.
